Farewell Lunch for Sr. Jean Berchmans

Sister Jean Berchmans, a Sister of the Immaculate Heart of Mary, a diocesan community formed by our Sisters in Vietnam, and who boarded with us in the Casa for (36)thirty-six years, was about to leave and transfer to a Sisters’ Inn\Hostel close to the Vatican Radio, where she works.  read more ...

This Sunday, before her departure date of Wednesday, the community tendered her a farewell lunch, with Mother Myriam and the Council in attendance. The tables were nicely set-up with individual rosaries from Bethlehem and holy cards for each one!

At the end of the meal, Sister Jean Berchmans expressed how her heart was filled with profound gratitude for many shared moments of joys and sorrows! She likewise humbly asked forgiveness for her unbecoming words and actions, and ended by begging to be accompanied with love and prayers, for without which, she feels so alone!

Sr. Ma. Teresa gave a response on behalf of the Sisters, expressing how her life had been witness to faithful religious living:

· as a true daughter of her mother institute, upholding its spirit, in spite of long years of physical distance and separation,
· as an SPC “adopted member”, steadfastly sharing our life in many varied ways, and
· as a committed staff in the work she does at the Vatican Radio.

Mother Myriam as a parting gift from the community, extended her a perpetual invitation to join us on special church festivities and presented a beautifully-wrapped token of our appreciation. Because it was so big, it had to be rolled-in, while our Sisters clapped their hands in glee at its sight!

For those of us who had known and lived with her, this was a heart-rending occasion, of letting go someone that had touched our lives!
