Feastday Commemoration of Mother Marie-Anne de Tilly.
A mission send-off ceremony was held in the Generalate for the four missionaries to Pertuis. Pertuis is very dear to the heart of every sister of St. Paul of Chartres, for this is the birthplace of our Founder, Fr. Louis Chauvet.
As we celebrate his 300th death anniversary this year, a community is opened in Pertuis, a gift given to us by God and a fitting tribute of gratitude to our holy, discrete, self-effaced, humble, kind priest whose desire was to see his daughters walk in the truth as they manifest Christ’s tenderness and love to the least, the last and the lost God sends to them.
The mission send-off ceremony was a very simple, profound and touching event. This was held during Vespers. After the reading , Mother Myriam Kitcharoen read her commissioning letter to the four sisters.
As in profession ceremony the sisters were called one by one by Mother Myriam. A white candle lighted from the Paschal candle was given to each one of them. They held this lighted candle as they said their “Yes” to God in front of the altar. The four sisters are Sr. Marie-Noel Lapel from France; Sr. Ma. Rowena Gutierrez from the Philippines, the appointed Superior; Sr. Elizabeth Lee from Daegu, Korea; and Sr. Eliza thi Hong Phuong Lam, from Danang, Vietnam. After the commissioning, Fr. Edward Tsimba, the Superior General of CICM, enjoined the whole congregation present to stretch out their hands in prayer for the four sisters as he himself prayed over on each one of them.
After Vespers, a long line was formed by the sisters who were waiting for their turn to greet and congratulate the four missionaries to Pertuis.
Very early on the following day, September 29, Feast of the Archangels Michael, Gabriel and Raphael, the four missionaries started their journey from Generalate-Rome to Paris then to Pertuis.
This new community in Pertuis is truly an international one. Prior to this event, they underwent intensive preparations here in the Generalate with Mother Myriam and her Council no less who gave them conferences, workshops and community building exercises for this new mission.
May the good Lord, Our Lady of Chartres, the Archangels and our dear Fr. Louis Chauvet with our First Mothers: Marie-Ann de Tilly, Marie Micheau and Barbe Foucault accompany them in their journey to Pertuis.
The seed planted by God in the heart of Fr. Louis Chauvet in Pertuis has borne fruits and has reached the four ends of the earth, now so robust and in abundance, the seed making its way back to Pertuis where it has all started.

Video on mission send-off ceremony
Last June 21, we had a great joy of celebrating the 300th anniversary of the death of our founder, Fr. Louis Chauvet. It was an occasion for all Provinces, Districts and Regions to give thanks to God for Fr. Louis Chauvet's gift to the Church through his dear daughters who were born out of his love for Our Lord and his devotion to the Blessed Virgin (History of our Origins, p. 257).
Fr. Chauvet, a friend of the poor, prophet of hope and love has left us a legacy to continue his costumary habitual works of charity (Testament).
My greatest blessing is to know that my daughters walk in the truth. These words written on the tomb of Fr. Chauvet remain likewise etched in our hearts.
To ensure this continuity and in honor of our Founder's memory, a new page of our history opens as we record the foundation of an international community of four sisters. Four grains gathered from different countries to bring forth fruit in the land of Provence.
Sr. Marie Noël Lapel, French, who was recalled from her missionary assignment in MADAGASCAR
Sr. Rowena Gutierrez from the PHILIPPINES Province
Sr. Elisabeth Lee from the Province of DAEGU in South Korea
Sr. Elisa thi Lam Hong Phung from the Province of DANANG in VIETNAM
Mother General addresses the Sister appointed for the service of the new community:
Sister Rowena Gutierrez, the General Council designates you to exercise authority in the Community of Pertuis for three years in the service of Obedience, listening to the Word and to the Will of the Lord.
Then Mother General addresses the Sisters of the Community:
Sr. Rowena Gutierrez, Sr. Marie Noël Lapel, Sr. Elisabeth Lee, and Sr. Elisa Lam thi Hong Phung, the Lord chose and called you. Go and proclaim! Believe that He loves; Be happy and be warmly welcoming in your Community.
The Superior, followed by the three other sisters steps forward to receive a lighted candle from the hands of Mother General. As she gives the candle, Mother General says:
Receive the Light of Christ as a sign of the mission entrusted to you and which you should continue, sustain by the power of His Spirit.

Mission Send-off to Pertuis
On September 28, 2010 at Vespers time in the chapel, all the Sisters of the Generalate, headed by Mother Myriam and Council , held the Send-Off Ceremony of our first Sisters called to Mission in Pertuis, namely:
· Sister Rowena Gutierrez, as Superior (from the Philippine Province),
· Sr. Marie Noël Lapel (re-called from her mission in Madagascar),
· Sr. Elizabeth Lee (from Daegu Province, Korea)
· Sr. Eliza thi Hong Phung Lam (from the Province of Danang, Vietnam).
To the tune of the song, “The Spirit of God, rests upon me...” the four Sisters, each with a lighted- candle, entered in procession to the chapel. They laid their big colored candles on the altar, which was nicely decorated for this occasion.
After the reading of the Word taken from Isaiah 52, 7-10, Mother Myriam gave a few introductory words that made us recall to mind:
“ ... to give thanks for graces received through our early beginnings... the faith and charity of our Founder ...Friend of the poor, Prophet of Hope and Love, whom we should emulate and whose work we are called upon to continue...a new page of our history opens , written in the foundation of an international community, of four grains harvested from different countries to bear fruit on the soil of Provence.”
The sending-rite came next. With the four Sisters now in front of the altar table, Mother first invested on Sister Rowena Gutierrez, the exercise of authority as Superior, for a term of three years. She advised her “to live this in obedience...by listening to the Word and His will.” To the three others, she gave an exhortation: “ you are chosen and called upon to announce the Gospel; to believe in the Lord’s personal love; and to live a happy and welcoming community!”
Mother proceeded on giving a lighted candle to each one saying:”Receive this Light of Christ, as sign of the mission entrusted upon you, which you must accomplish, sustained by the strength of the Holy Spirit...” while the Sisters sung in unison, “The Lord is my light and my salvation!”The Intercessory prayer focused on graces asked on behalf of the Sisters and their mission.
Another high point came when the Rev. Fr. Edouard Tsimba, CICM, Superior General, imposed his hands over each of the four Sisters while all joined in prayer with outstretched arms, invoking the Spirit’s special blessings!
In parting, Sister Marie Noel and Sister Rowena (respectively in French and English), expressed their thanksgiving; everyone responded with a warm applause!
The ceremony now ended, Mother and Council led in congratulating the four Sisters at the chapel lobby. They then posed for family picture taking and later happily partook of a simple festive meal together!
