Soeurs de St Paul de Chartres
PORT- AU - PRINCE, HAITI

The situation of the country is very critical and unbearable. It is misery in all its dimensions at all levels.
With the earthquake that happened on January 12 at around 5 p.m. more than 212 thousand people died and nothing was left at Port-au-Prince. This devastation happened in less than an hour only. All Congregations have been very affected losing some of their members as well as their properties. Thank God we Sisters of St. Paul de Chartres have been spared from disastrous end. None of us was hurt, except one who had a sprain when she fell from the staircase as she was running away. Her foot is more or less well now.
We have seven houses in Haîti. The house of Delmas (center of the district) and the school of Delmas are completely destroyed. They are unusable. The remaining walls will be put down. The houses of Oriani and Savannahs to Roches stood firm and have not been affected The houses of Thomassin 25, Thomassin 29, Cabaret and Arcahaie are in ruins as well as the buildings in the schools.
People live on the street and under the tents. Thanks to the assistance coming from abroad they are still able to survive. On our part we also provide shelter to homeless families who have lost everything. We accompany them with our presence because we find it a good witness to support them. We believe that the Lord Jesus and Father Chauvet will be very pleased with us, for the glory of God.
Thank you for remembering us in your prayers.
